The Pride: Black Pride

UK Black Pride 2011

This Saturday, 20th August sees the sixth annual UK Black Pride 2011 – and it can now wave its hands in the air like it just don’t care and proclaim itself as Europe’s largest celebration of African, Asian, Caribbean and Middle Eastern LGBT ladies, gents and undecideds. Torrington Square, Birkbeck College is where it’s at (which is the Bloomsbury side of Gower Street, if you’re suffering from Google Map fatigue) and on the main stage will be Brit and Mobo Award winner Ms Dynamite, whilst over in the dance tent you’ll find R&B, bashment and funky house courtesy of DJs Jamel Laouini, Miss Bailey and Smoochie – with the after-party coming in the form of Bootylicious. And seeing as we have you, Black Pride is run entirely by volunteers, so not only does that make us feel like we’ve done nothing with our lives but it makes the tenner you need to schtump up for tickets seem like nothing at all. Not even a jot.
