Movie-lovers may or may not be familiar with the work of Empire magazine, the willfully low-brow publication for anyone who ever spent a week’s wages attending a run-down up-town cinema smelling of ‘butter’ and hot dogs. Well, we have to hand it to Empire, they may not be able to come up with a magazine we want to buy but they sure have put some time and energy into their Big Screen event over at 02. Running from 12th till 14th August (that’s today – but you’ll be at the Jake Summer Party – until Sunday), it’s a riot of colour and movement with the likes of Dominic Cooper pitching up to introduce his new film Devil’s Double, previews of some big movies like the new Aardman, sneak peeks at stuff like Pixar’s newie Brave, special fx make-up masterclasses, seminars on censorship, special guests who they promise will be MASSIVE… there really is something there for everyone. We can’t vouch for the quality of the attendees but we do salute Empire for putting on such a massive and impressive event. Check the almost endless components of that event here.
