And these clothes *points north* are now available in… Manchester. Or Manchesterford, if you’re that way inclined. Or The MCR, if you’re hard. Previously only available en masse in the usual places – London, New York, Tokyo – Unconditional‘s big squeeze Philip Stephens has, this week, cut the ribbon at Manchester’s very own flagship store, and in one fell swoop the city has earned its first major fashion stripe since Aunty Vivienne Westwood came over all northern with her flagship on Spring Street, and Selfridges and Harvey Nichols decided to spread their wings in the early 2000s.
As worn by all the right celebs and all the right gays (and some of the wrong ones, but you can’t police everyone) Unconditional – with its instantly recognisable silhouettes, dreamy fabrics and exquisite cuts (its fashion. You can use the word ‘exquisite’) – occupies that coveted aspirational/affordable niche in style terms, which is what is known in the business as a ‘good thing’. We’re fingering ours as we speak.
