The Musical: Betwixt

Following a successful run at Islington’s King’s Theatre three years ago, Ian McFarlanes’s Betwixt musical is moving to the infinitely more steep Trafalgar Studios, where his tale of gay-tinged fantasy set in modern-day New York kicks off a month-long run this Tuesday, 26th. Writer Bailey is suffering from writer’s block (honey, we feel your pain) and, alongside flamboyant (meaning gay) room mate Cooper (played by Steven Webb, boyfriend of Stephen Fry. Which shouldn’t be relevant but at least gives context when you’re fingering the programme) finds himself thrust into a fantasy world – via his TV set – of sex-crazed nymphs and evil enchantresses, where the pair is tasked with rescuing a fading daytime TV star. So think The Ring, only gayer.
