The Film Festival: Pout 3

Pout 3 film festival, London

Much like hats, gloves, shoes and tequila shots, you can never have enough gay festivals (maybe you can, but this is neither the time nor the place), and Pout is a sturdy addition to the oeuvre with its collection of edgy, heart-tugging films of LGBT trials, tribulations and same-sex oriented love-making. Taking place at the Apollo in Piccadilly Circus this weekend, Pout 3 opens with Break My Fall, which follows the lives of four friends in East London (one’s about to self-destruct; one’s in a dead-end job; one works the night shift; one’s a hooker; they’re all in a band; sounds like our life), whilst closing the festival is Uncle David, the acclaimed directorial debut from David Hoyle and starring the man himself alongside pornstar Ashley Ryder, who plays the nephew to Hoyle’s Uncle. It’s low-budget, it’s dark, it’s improvised, it’s maddeningly wonderful and there are caravans. And you can buy your tickets here.
