The Musical: Coco

Coco, Sadlers Wells

The credentials are impeccable: the music is by Andre Previn, the book by Alan Jay Lerner of My Fair Lady fame, the original Broadway production was overseen by Coco Chanel herself and starred none other than Katherine Hepburn (pictured)… Which means the European premiere of the show at the Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadlers Wells, part of their Lost Musicals line-up, better think on and look sharp. It’s witty, funny, naughty, with a waspish, Dorothy Parker-esque flavour to it. Sara Kestleman plays Coco, the ageing fashion icon who feels she’s being overtaken by young whippersnappers like Christian Dior but is taking nothing – NOTHING, you hear? – lying down. It runs until 12th June and you can buy tickets here.
