The Play: Bette & Joan

Bette & Joan, The Arts Theatre

Notorious bitches, especially with each other, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford were apparently at each other like feral cats from the get-go on the set of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, with Joan apparently going so far as to strap weights to herself so that when Bette had to drag her across a bed she would put her back out! Delicious stuff for a play, which is why Anton Burge has been a very clever lad in choosing it as subject matter for his play Bette & Joan starring Anita ‘Anyone Can Fall in Love’ Dobson and Greta Scacchi at The Arts Theatre. Opening night is next Wednesday, 10th May. Previews are on now. Altogether now, ‘But y’aaaaare Blanche. Y’aaaaare in that chair….’
