There is nothing like a dame, apparently. And there’s nothing quite like Roger & Hammerstein’s South Pacific, which is coming holding its Tonys before it to London’s Barbican this summer. A smash hit at New York’s Lincoln Centre, it’s the story of… you don’t need us to tell you what it’s the story of. Just imagine sailors in pristine whites, a few palm trees and a whole container-load of cracking numbers – Happy Talking, I’m In Love With A Wonderful Guy, Nothing Like a Dame, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair, Some Enchanted Evening, Bali Ha’I, Younger Than Springtime, I Will Survive (actually, not that last one). The only fly in this particular ointment is the rumour that Samantha Womack – the whingeing EastEnders actress formerly known as Janus – will be taking the lead. Book your tickets early here.
