A long time coming, Christopher and His Kind by Kevin Elyot – yes, he of the highly controversial Clapham Junction – is the sort of TV drama we might actually consider spending Saturday night in for if it wasn’t for modern recording facilities and Megawoof at Fire. It stars Doctor Who himself, Matt Smith, as Isherwood – the writer behind the books that became Cabaret and, of course, A Single Man – Lindsay Duncan as his mother, the picture-perfect Burberry model Douglas Booth as Heinz, the love interest (this will be his second gay role in a row!) and Imogen Poots as the woman who would become Sally Bowles (she’s great but she’s no Liza). Brilliantly written/shot/acted/art directed and generally put together, it is definitely worth your esteemed consideration.
