The Hotel: W Leicester Square

W Hotel, Leicester Square

Its opening this week brought out anyone who was anyone and quite a few people who were frankly no one at all (they know who they are. We don’t!)

Smack bang in the middle of Leicester Square – OK, slightly to one side of Leicester Square, right where the Swiss Centre and that funny little clock with the people coming out used to be – the W is big, it’s fancy, it’s shiny, it’s futuristic with mirror balls and Barbarella curves and reflective floors and all the latest technology in rooms that actually have metallic bed-coverings to match iPod docks and the very latest in tellies.

It also has a very well reviewed restaurant in the shape and form of Spice Market where chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten has brought his very up-market take on street food to the masses. Not to everyone’s taste, for sure, but it’s definitely there and there’s no point in ignoring it.
