Jake member Michael Arditti has been putting it about a bit of late. You might have seen his double-page spread in Attitude, heard him on Open Book on Radio 4 or seen one of the gushing five-star reviews he’s been getting for his new novel, Jubilate (Arcadia). He was even featured on the cover of The Lady!
He already has a whole fan club of famous writers: Philip Pullman, Fay Weldon, Muriel Spark, Edna O’Brien and Rose Tremain have all raved over books like The Celibate, Easter and Pagan and Her Parents, the gay adoption novel that has just been re-issued and is Stonewall’s Book of the Month. ‘And I’m probably right at the top of Madonna’s reading list…’ he told Jake.
Basically, Jubilate is a love story set in Lourdes and, according to someone very high up at The Guardian, Arditti ‘carries you through with humour, warmth and, above all, the urgency of a great romance.’
Buy the books, wear the T-shirts and see Michael in his one-man show (actually it’s just an appearance but he is very entertaining) at Polari at The Royal Festival Hall (St Paul’s Pavilion) on 15th March. Take panties to throw.
